Welcome ...

... to my new little corner of ....

I joined this Community on 9/29/08. I'm Slungler #89.
One of the co-founders of this whole operation ...

Profile Information

Can you help create the Slungle show?
Yes
Your Website (if any field is not specifically marked "private", it will be Published, which means it will be shown on your profile!)
http://www.bob-bennett.com
Your interests
Interaction, Music, Movies, Books
What are you passionate about?
Music (both listening to and creating)
Movies
Books
Christian Discipleship
What are you most thankful for?

Salvation Not Earned
My Wife Elena
My Three Incredible Offspring
To play, write and record Music for a Living!
Besides parents, who has been most influencial in your life?
In "life changing terms", my almost lifelong devotion to Christ.
Various musicians ...
... and authors who haveshaped my love of verbal and musical communication.
How do you typically spend your leisure time?
Again with the Music, Movies and Books ... and way too much quality TV watching thrown in. I guess I'm not a very well-rounded guy. I enjoy great conversations and have a weekly opportunity at a Men's Prayer gathering for no-holds-barred discussions among good (and safe) friends.
What are the three characteristics that describe you best?
1) Too emotional for my own good: high highs and low lows.
2) I have a keen dislike of bullies, especially when I'm tempted in that direction.
3) I would hope that my life is more than just the sum total of any statistics or wins/losses that could be tallied about me!
What are you life goals?
(In no particular order): To prove that my best work is not behind me ... To be the best Husband I can be ... To be "that one guy" who blesses someone's otherwise awful day ... To get healthier so as to live longer and spoil any future grandchildren.
What do you believe?
I believe that kindness, self-sacrifice, responsibility and honor are the ultimate acts of rebellion in our pervasive me-first culture. My generation helped build a selfish and self-obsessed culture from the ground up ... I'd like to live long enough to undo some of that damage. I am a Bible-oriented, mostly fundamental Christian, but I'm not a my-way-or-the-highway kind of guy.
Are you in...
employed
Name of School and/or Employer
I've been a self-employed singer-songwriter since 1978. In the past I've worked at a drive-in dairy, cleaned up at a bakery, worked on a loading dock, played Santa Claus for one day at JC Penney's, worked at a small record company and co-hosted a radio talk show. There are two job-phrases I hope to avoid:

"Would you like fries with that?"
and
"Welcome to Walmart".
What is the most interesting thing about you?
"Most interesting" is tough for me to assess. My most memorable thing I've ever won? Long, long ago at a Saturday afternoon matinée at the long-gone Meralta Movie Theatre (in Downey, CA), I once won an 8x10 glossy of "Flipper" (yes, the dolphin). Not autographed, though.

Other things about me that I'd like to share...
A Favorite Quote:
"The artistic temperament
is a disease that afflicts amateurs."

SONG: You Went Ahead (For Roby Duke)

I maintain a web site for my career as a singer-songwriter. I have just updated a featured there called Song of the Month. For October, I posted a song written for my dear, departed friend Roby Duke. The song is called "You Went Ahead". Click HERE and then on the "Song of the Month" link in the menu bar at left.

POEM: "Bard" by William Everson

I first became aware of this poet and this particular poem

by way of my friend and fellow traveler/singer-songwriter

Michael Kelly Blanchard. He said simply, "This is you."

One of the kindest encouragements I have ever received

in my almost-whole-lifetime of attempted artistry.

I'll be traveling out of the country from November 7-17th. Away from computer and, in the absence of a laptop, away from Slungle. That means my October Music selections will seriously carry over into November. But I have some ideas for what comes next and I'll update soon after I return and get back in the right time zone!
