Since the picture of the group is currently a screenshot from The French Connection, arguably one of the best films of the 1970's and also a film that contains one of the best car chases of all time, I thought it'd be interesting to see other people's opinions on great car chases in film. Ronin immediately comes to mind for me as well as The Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum. Any other thoughts?

There is the car scene then there is the actor. Hackman is, what I believe, one the best actors that have ever lived. Does not the actor make much of the care chase? Look at the intesity!

That's true; what's a car chase if no one is driving the car!

You named some of the first ones that came into my mind, "Ronin" is one of my all-time favorites - I agree entirely. And "The French Connection" is definitely up there... but I'll name a few others:

1. I'm a big James Bond fan, and the one that stands out with me is the 360 degree car flip in (I think), "The Man with the Golden Gun". I remember seeing this when I was a kid and being completely awed by that stunt!
2. Terminator 2, Judgement Day, when Schwarzenegger is on the motorcycle...
3. Gotta go for "The Blues Brothers"... it mixes some great entertainment, good action, and some excellent comedy!

Speaking of James Bond, I remember that car chase in A View To A Kill where he was driving that 80's BMW. He drove under something and the top of the car gets completely ripped off, then the back tires disappear and he's driving with two front wheels. The 007 film when they're in Jamaica had a good car chase scene if I remember correctly.

Bullitt had a pretty cool chase.

For Comedy you can't pass up:

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

and it's updated

Rat Race

There is nothing funnier than seeing Johnathan Winters tear up an entire gas station with his bare hands and seeing Jon Lovitz driving Hitlers car.

I believe there was a killer car chase in Cannonball Run that sweet. I think it was through the street of San Fransisco???

Jurassic Park 1 had a car chase that I think is over looked. It is when the T-Rex is chasing them in the Jeep. It's short but totally intense.

Fast and the Furious 3 also had some amazing driving and race sequences...not that I have seen it or anything, or have the poster on my wall, but for as crap of a movie as that was the driving was awesome.
